About Food for Education
Food for Education is a African-led, women-led social enterprise that uses technology, smart operations, and logistics to deliver low-cost, nutritious meals, to improve nutrition and education outcomes.
We currently serve over 33,000 primary school students every day across Nairobi, Kiambu, and Mombasa counties. Parents pay for these meals through a mobile money system linked to Near Field Communication (NFC) wristbands, which the children wear and ‘Tap2Eat’ in under 5 seconds to access their meals.
Our mission is to scale a model that prioritizes efficient supply chain management and sustainable sourcing, so we can continue lowering the cost of school meals. Food for Education has served over 7,000,000 meals since 2012, and is expanding to reach at least 1,000,000 public school students in Kenya by 2027.
About The Role
F4E is expanding rapidly to reach more schools across Kenya. The Community Associate is a key role to create and sustain demand for F4E in new partner schools, whilst leading our entry into new counties/sub-counties through relationships with headteachers and Boards of Management.
The Community Associate is responsible for overseeing day-to-day relationships with key sub-county level government officials who are crucial to our operations, growth, and regulatory compliance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Outward Growth and Demand Generation
- Own relationships with head teachers, Board of Management (BoM) members and relevant sub-county stakeholders for F4E to begin working in a new school
- Organize new school activations during the early stages of operations in a new sub-county. This includes but is not limited to coordinating the onboarding of parents in all new schools, supporting the setup and deployment of Tap2Eat and managing the relevant relationships with key stakeholders
2. Local Government Relations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key government officials at sub-county levels across Nairobi and Central regions to increase support for and understanding of F4E
- Support the overall delivery of the Policy & Partnerships local government relations strategy in new and existing sub-counties
- Secure all county/sub-county level approvals for kitchen construction and operations by coordinating the applications for all relevant licenses and permits.
Desired Candidate Profile
- At least a Diploma in any relevant field
- Experience building relations with local government officials, with a clear
understanding of government processes that are critical to school feeding, and good knowledge of how local government in Kenya operates - Very good communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Kiswahili
- Strong external relationship management skills including negotiation skills and rapport building
- Project management skills needed to deliver the local government relations strategy and achieve increasing student numbers across existing and future counties would be a nice-to-have
- Analytical thinker with tactical skills and an ability to anticipate potential risks
- Ability to make clear, actionable recommendations to team members and line managers
- Have great interpersonal skills and is comfortable working with people of different seniority levels
